The Bal Gandharva Ranga Mandir is owned by the Pune Municipal Corporation. Bal Gandharva Ranga Mandir is a theatre with an auditorium and an exhibition hall. It is one of the most sophisticated and well-equipped theatres of India. Late P.L. Deshpande, the renowned writer and humourist of Maharashtra, played an important role in the conception of this theatre.
The theatre is centrally-located in the Sambhaji Park area of Pune. It is looked upon as the main cultural destination of the city. It is available for cultural, educational, social and religious activities, as well as corporate and business seminars.

A special feature of Bal Gandharva Ranga Mandir is that it is made available for Children Plays during school vacations / holidays such as Diwali vacation, Christmas holidays and Summer vacation. However, it is available as per decided dates for the 9.00 am to 11.00 am session excluding on Sundays.

Other Details
- Expenses for lighting the surroundings and the building – As per the meter reading and load
- Any additional lighting shall be charged as per pre-decided rates. Erection of pandal or stall in the vacant area around the theatre shall be charged as per pre-decided rates
- It is necessary to get prior permission for use of canteen and parking area from the respective contractor
- In case of any damage to any material in the theatre or any other damage, charges will be levied in accordance with the type of damage caused
Booking Policy
- Booking for the auditorium shall be done ona 4-months slot basis i.e.,
- January to April
- May to August
- September to December
- This slot-wise booking includes 12.30 pm, 5.00 pm and 9.30 pm time slots for all the months across Thursdays, second and fourth Saturdays, Sundays and all the days of government-declared holidays.
- The applicant should apply for these 4-month slots on a printed form prescribed by PMC. However, a printed application with all the relevant information on the letter head of the institute or the company is also acceptable. The booking request applications shall be accepted in the theatre office between 10.30 am to 5.30 pm within the stipulated time given below. Forms submitted after the stipulated time shall not be considered.

- It is mandatory to pay the deposit amount along with the booking form.
- It is necessary to book the theatre at least 15 days before the actual programme date (date of programme included).If the prescribed amount is not deposited with the theatre within the scheduled time then the booking shall be cancelled and right to give away the date to another programme shall be with the Hon. Chief Manager, Cultural Centres, Pune Municipal Corporation.
Booking for Odd - Days
- By odd - days we mean those Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays when there are not government - declared or public holidays.
- It is necessary for the applicant of Odd-day bookings to submit their application with the relevant information to the Hon. Chief Manager, Cultural Centres, Pune Municipal Corporation in writing 14 days prior to the programme, by 11.30 am. It is mandatory to pay the deposit amount along with the booking form.
- The decision regarding the Odd-days booking is given 14 days prior to the programme (day of the programme included). For example, if the programme is on the 16th then the decision is communicated on the 2nd of that month.
- Odd-day Booking – It is mandatory for the institute / applicant who gets the booking to deposit the entire rent on the day of the decision i.e., 14 days prior to the programme.
- If applications do not come in for Odd-day bookings within the stipulated time period and even after action taken as per (3) and (4) there are no bookings then the PMC stands to face a financial loss. In such exceptional situations, that date is assigned to whoever applies for the same before the day of the programme. The applicant needs to pay the required deposit and the rent on the day of the programme itself.
- Booking of the Art Gallery is done 2 months in advance on the 1st day of the month.
Repairs and Maintenance
The responsibility of repairs and maintenance of the theatre lies with the Bhavan Rachana / Building Construction and Electricals Department, Pune Municipal Corporation.
