In order to support and empower the differently-abled citizens of India, Pune Municipal Corporation have launched several schemes for them. The schemes are as follows:
1) Free bus pass scheme:
The scheme provides an annual free pass to the all differently-abled citizens to travel through local government transport i.e. PMPML buses, provided citizen resides in the jurisdiction area of Pune Municipal Corporation. The number of application received for the Free bus pass scheme decides the amount to be paid to the PMPML by PMC.
2) Financial aid for the Prosthetic device to the disabled:
SDD gives financial aid up to Rs. 20,000 for purchasing a hearing aid, wheelchair and tricycle.
3) Financial assistance for self-employment to Disabled people:
Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs.5000 is provided to the differently abled individuals between the age group of 18 to 40 years to start their own business.
4) Grant for Vocational training:
Social Development Department of Pune Municipal Corporation provides a training cost of Rs. 10,000 to the differently-abled people who have completed a vocational training course at government approved centers.
5) Grant for higher education:
Under this scheme, the students, who are opting for higher education through government-approved degree/diploma, are given financial aid of Rs. 10,000 by Pune Municipal Corporation. The grant is given every year until the course ends. The students have to earn minimum passing marks throughout the course.
